About the role
The Certified Surgical Tech works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, following established procedural guides in the preparation of sterile supplies and equipment used in surgical procedures. They perform appropriate room duties involved with direct patient care and function as a member of the operating room team.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the level of development of patients, considering their families' needs.
- Collaborate with the surgical team and under the direction of a physician, assume responsibility for the care and safety of patients, instrumentation, supplies, and equipment during surgery.
- Ensure effective communication with the circulator, charge nurse, patient, surgeon, and anesthesia personnel from other hospital departments.
- Responsible for maintaining the integrity, safety, and efficiency of the sterile field.
- Aid in exposure, hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions to support the surgeon's safe operation.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Nurse Manager.
Requirements
- Hold and maintain the Certified Surgical Technologist credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (formerly LCC-ST).
- Have a current CPR card.
- Complete a 2-year Associates degree or a 4-year Bachelor degree with specialized training in surgical processes, anatomy, instrumentation, and/or equipment through an accredited school of Surgical technology or an appropriate training program through the United States military or the United States Public Health System.
- Be certified.
- Have at least 2 years of operating room technician experience.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- Graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology or surgical technology military program.
- At least two years of work experience as a Certified Surgical Tech.
- Completion of all CST III career ladder requirements.

- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks in a sterile environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
