Fireplace Installation Technician

This is an on-the-job training program to become a certified chimney sweep and fireplace installer. The first 6-12 months are designed for learning while working, including a required week-long training at the Chimney Sweep Institute in Plainfield, Indiana, and a week-long fireplace training (location and dates to be determined). The program lasts two years; early departure requires reimbursement for training costs.

About the role

A successful candidate has an interest in electrical, gas, and carpentry basics, can read and understand manuals, and is self-motivated with a positive attitude. You must be comfortable with heights, power tools, and working in detail-oriented environments. Installations include wood, gas, and pellet stoves, inserts, and fireplaces.

Schedule

• Minimum 5 full days per week (8:00 AM – 4:00 PM).
• Some Saturdays (8:45 AM – 1:15 PM) during heating season.

Responsibilities

• Learn to install fireplace units according to safety requirements, standards, and code.
• Stay up to date on current technologies and products.
• Properly connect units into gas lines, venting, and hookups.
• Document installations efficiently and accurately.
• Review upcoming jobs, prepare for the coming week, and meet regularly with the Project Manager.
• Maintain company work vehicle, tools, and equipment inventory, ensuring cleanliness and organization.
• Learn and comply with installation codes, including level 1 and 2 chimney inspections.
• Identify chimney hazards, including chimney fires.
• Work well on a team and communicate effectively with both team members and customers.
• Use provided technology to manage jobs, records, upload findings, and communicate with the team.
• All other duties as required.

Requirements

• Become a certified chimney sweep within the first year.
• Attend week-long factory training (out of state) within the first year.
• Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy objects and materials.
• Valid Driver’s License with a decent motor vehicle record.
• Comfortable climbing onto roofs and working at heights of 20-50 feet.

Pay

$19–25 per hour. A pay increase occurs upon completion of the first year and successful Chimney Sweep Institute training.
