About the Role
This position is responsible for providing emergency support in the event of a fire or medical emergency.
Responsibilities
- Respond to fire suppression, hazard mitigation, victim rescue, and medical emergencies; maintain readiness for emergency call response; extinguish fires and perform related life and property protection.
- Provide emergency medical care at a basic and advanced life support level.
- Ensure the proper condition, maintenance, and appearance of apparatus and equipment; prepare apparatus for immediate response.
- Prepare, maintain, and/or update incident and other reports and documentation.
- Participate in training drills, safety checks, and physical fitness activities and exercises.
- Participate in or facilitate fire department programs or training sessions to educate staff and public on fire safety and prevention.
- Participate in the daily functions of the fire station, which may include housekeeping, cooking, and other related duties.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.
Requirements
- TCFP Basic Structural Firefighter certification.
- Paramedic certification.
Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be exposed to:
- Hazardous physical conditions (mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations).
- Atmospheric conditions (fumes, odors, gases, poor ventilation).
- Hazardous materials (chemicals, blood, other bodily fluids).
- Extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, or work space-related movement restrictions.
- Intense noise and other environmental conditions (challenging behaviors, imminent danger, threatening environments).
- Travel may be expected.
