FIREFIGHTER PARAMEDIC

About the role

The City of Newport Beach Fire Department (NBFD) seeks motivated individuals to join our team as a Firefighter Paramedic. NBFD provides fire protection, EMS, and life safety services to our community.

Responsibilities

• Deliver door-to-door emergency medical care
• Provide advanced life support in critical situations
• Respond to a variety of emergency calls, including fires, medical emergencies, and natural disasters
• Operate and maintain firefighting and EMS equipment
• Participate in training and drills to enhance skills and knowledge
• Work collaboratively with other emergency responders and departments

Requirements

• High school diploma/GED or college degree
• Firefighter I certification from a California Office of the Fire Marshal State Fire Training
• California EMT-Paramedic License, National Registry EMT-Paramedic License, or completion of a paramedic program
• Driver's license
• Basic Life Support (CPR) for Healthcare Provider card
• CPAT or Biddle PAT certification completed within the past year
• Licensed to practice as a Paramedic through Orange County Emergency Medical Services (OCEMS)
• Pass a comprehensive background investigation, including fingerprinting and polygraph examination
• Live within 150 miles of the City limits if hired after January 1, 2019

Qualifications

• Three years or more of experience as a Paramedic
• Experience working in a high-stress environment
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Physical fitness and stamina to perform physically demanding tasks

• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficient in using firefighting and EMS equipment
• Knowledge of emergency medical protocols and procedures
