Firefighter (Hazardous Materials Technician / Basic Life Support).

About the role

This position requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examinations to ensure continued physical health and fitness.

Responsibilities

• Performs firefighting and rescue operations.
• Assigned to a crew engaged in structural firefighting, rescue, HAZMAT incident response functions.
• Performs noninvasive emergency medical procedures to provide Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Responds to hazardous material incidents.
• Drives and operates firefighting/rescue vehicles, participates in rescue operations including confined space, high-angle, and other special operations.

Requirements

• Requires the completion of pre-employment and periodic subsequent medical examination.
• Has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• Maintains a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• Must obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
• Requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
• Requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• Requires the incumbent to work 72-hour work weeks / 144-hours per pay period.
• Requires the incumbent to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.

• Requires the incumbent to participate in the Department Wellness Program to include: annual physical examinations and on-the-spot drug screening.
