Position Details
FULL-TIME FIREFIGHTER ELIGIBILITY LIST
The City of Effingham is accepting applications to establish a two-year eligibility list for future full-time firefighter positions with the Effingham Fire Department. The list is expected to be established in October or November 2026, and the City anticipates hiring multiple firefighters from this list as positions become available.

Responsibilities
- Operate modern apparatus and equipment
- Train at a new live-fire training facility
- Participate in fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical response, fire investigation, hazardous materials response, and other specialized assignments
Requirements
- Be at least 21 years of age and under 35 years of age unless exempt under Illinois law
- Possess a high school diploma or GED
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Possess valid CPAT and Ladder Climb certifications as required by the application packet
- Successfully complete the written examination, oral interview, background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological evaluation, and medical examination
- Meet all additional requirements established by the City of Effingham Fire and Police Commission
