Responsibilities

  • Design automatic sprinkler systems including fire pumps, tanks, wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems using working knowledge of fire sprinkler codes.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for each design.
  • Prepare submittal packages to send to Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and subsequent correspondence to achieve design approval.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with contractors and design kick-off meetings.
  • Prepare fabrication lists for pipe fabrication vendor and requisition materials for jobs with assistance from the Design Manager or Senior Sprinkler Designer.
  • Perform field surveys to ensure design appropriateness for structure with assistance from the Design Manager or Senior Sprinkler Designer.
  • Assist field personnel with design-related installation issues.
  • Prepare and submit final job close-out documents after final acceptance testing.
  • Understand and follow SFP’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies, and procedures. Know the location of all related safety documentation on each project.
  • Periodically attend seminars or similar education/training sessions to stay updated on the latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years’ experience as a sprinkler designer.
  • Construction experience, mechanical aptitude, and basic/advanced math skills.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Familiarity with HydraCad, SprinkCAD, and/or other CAD software (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to comply with SFP’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, including customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreements.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • NICET II or NICET III and/or state-required certification (required). Equivalent experience will be considered if the individual pursues NICET education.
  • Ability to operate a computer and use Microsoft Office (required).

  • Physical requirements include sitting for long periods, occasional bending, kneeling, balancing, lifting under 20 lbs, walking, standing, ascending/descending stairs, driving, twisting, and reaching above/below shoulders.

  • Consistent indoor office work, occasionally alone or with others.
  • Occasional outdoor work with exposure to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise.
  • Occasional requirement to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as per company safety policies when visiting locations.
