Fire Sprinkler Apprentice

About the role

The Fire Sprinkler Apprentice assists in laying out, fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping and piping systems, fixtures, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems. This role is ideal for a coachable, mechanically inclined individual.

Responsibilities

• Assist and learn under the direction of Sprinkler Technician Journeymen in the following:
• Install pipe systems and valves
• Cut, thread, assemble, and bond pipes and tubes according to specifications
• Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, and fittings
• Remove and replace worn components
• Learn to follow blueprints to meet product specifications
• Learn how to calculate material measurements to verify specifications
• Learn proper installation techniques
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
• Must be able to enroll and obtain a current Fire Sprinkler License
• Mechanical ability and basic hand tool knowledge
• Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision under the direction of Sprinkler Technicians
• Basic math skills, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, customer service skills, decision-making skills
• Ability to multitask, meet project schedules, plan and organize, troubleshoot, and train others
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Must comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, including customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreements

Skills

• Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers
• Ability to read electronic blueprints (strongly preferred)

Physical & Work Environment

• Frequently required to bend, ascend and descend step stools, ladders, and stairs; kneel; lift up to 75 lbs; reach above and below shoulders; stand and walk for extended periods
• Must be able to see in color, at close and far distances, peripherally, with depth perception, and adjust focus
• Occasionally required to balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift up to 75 lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights
• Frequent local travel and occasional regional and non-regional travel
• Frequently work inside and outside in hot/cold temperatures, exposed to loud noises, cramped quarters, dust, fumes, odors, standing on hard surfaces, and electrical hazards
• Occasionally exposed to chemicals, moving machinery, uneven and slippery surfaces
• Must consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment as required by company safety policies
