About the role
The Fire Protection Specialist performs plan reviews and inspections on all fire alarm, suppression, special hazard, and associated systems. They also inspect fire-resistance-rated construction in commercial buildings and perform residential plan reviews and inspections related to fire-rated assemblies.
Responsibilities
- Review building construction documents for code compliance for: fire protection equipment, site access, building elements
- Inspect commercial building construction related to: fire protection equipment, site access, building elements
- Perform change of occupancy plan reviews and inspections
- Perform residential plan reviews and inspections related to fire-rated assemblies
- Consult with applicable parties on fire code compliance issues
- Adhere to the Certification Program and obtain a minimum of 3 certifications within 2 years
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Broad knowledge equivalent to a college degree
- 2 years of related experience and/or training
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 12 to 18 months of management experience
- People and/or project management
- Valid Oklahoma Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
Preferred Education/Skills/Knowledge
- Associate’s degree in Fire Protection Technology or Engineering
- Fire Protection Specialist certification from NFPAC
- Certification as an International Code Council Fire Inspector 1 & 2
- Certification as a Fire Plans Examiner
- Knowledge of governing industry standards such as NFPA, IBC, IFC, and state (OUBCC) and local ordinances
Necessary Skills
- Ability to meet the required physical standards for this position
- Ability to pass extensive background process and pre-employment drug, physical, and audio screenings
