About the role
Responsible for the installation and testing of automatic fire suppression systems.
Responsibilities
- Inspects, repairs, tests, adjusts and removes sprinkler systems using instructions and pre-established guidelines
- Cuts, threads and hangs pipe
- Responsible for the installation and rebuilding of fire pumps
- Installation of valves, couplings and other fittings
- Reads and interprets drawings and specifications to determine layout requirements
- Installs clamps, brackets and hangers to support piping system and sprinkler and fire protection equipment
- Connects piping system to water mains, supply tanks, pumps, compressors and control equipment
- Tests system for leaks using air or liquid pressure equipment
- Trains and directs the day to day work of a helper
- Maintains appropriate documentation for the work performed
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience as a Sprinkler Fitter or Fire Protection Service Tech; or equivalent combination of vocational training and experience
- NICET Level 2 preferred, but not required
- Backflow certified preferred but not required
- Experience installation and rebuilding of fire pumps preferred
- Ridgid 300 power machine (cutting and threading pipe) experience
- Ability to interpret blueprints and architectural drawings
- Must be able to multi-task, work with minimal supervision, follow written and oral instructions, show attention to detail, and demonstrate problem-solving skills
- Must adhere to all company policy and procedures
- Must be available, and have the means to report to multiple job sites as assigned
Work Environment
- May work in varying temperatures; both inside and outside, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, cold, and dampness
- May work in areas with exposure to moderate/high noise levels
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles including dust
- May be required to work in confined spaces or from high heights
Physical Demands
- Routinely uses construction equipment such as heavy machinery, hand and power tools
- May work aloft, climb, bend, pull, reach overhead, stand/walk for long periods of time and lift up to 50 lbs
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms
- Must be able to correctly identify all colors of a color-coded cable/wires and see close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus
Travel
May require travel (typically not overnight)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior military experience
- HS diploma or GED equivalent
