About the Role

Put your maintenance and repair skills to good use at Vallen as a Lead Service Technician focused on Life Safety Services in the Vallen Safety Services Group. In this position, you will install and/or inspect, test, and maintain (ITM) life safety systems and equipment for established customers on a scheduled basis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality service to customers and assist assigned HTS technicians with proper training in Vallen standard operating procedures.
  • Install and/or perform ITM of Life Safety Systems, including but not limited to: Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarm and Detection Systems, Gas Detection Systems, Foam Systems, Dry Chemical Systems, Clean Agent Systems, Special Hazard Systems, and Water-Based Systems.
  • Coordinate job activities in the absence of a Technician Lead, if assigned by supervisor/manager.
  • Lead other technicians within your area of expertise and interact with customers to coordinate job activities.
  • Ensure all documentation associated with assigned tasks is completed accurately and submitted for proper invoicing; provide required copies to customers upon servicing equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge of all regulatory standards (State, OSHA, NFPA, etc.) pertaining to assigned duties.
  • Handle Parts & Equipment requests for specific assigned jobs and maintain accurate inventories related to job and maintenance orders.
  • Exhibit safe work practices at all times.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving tasks, including unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, and distributing to sales associates for processing.
  • Use company-provided assets such as vehicles, inventory, safety equipment, laptops, scanners, test equipment, tools, radios, cell phones, fuel cards, and/or credit cards while maintaining proper care of all assets as defined by Vallen policies.
  • Maintain productivity of at least 95% within 60 days and manage customer accounts or projects successfully.
  • Repair and service equipment sold by Vallen in a timely and accurate manner, and provide assistance, advice, and training to Vallen associates and plant personnel.
  • Assist warehouse personnel with order fulfillment if needed.
  • Keep all certifications and licenses current by completing continuing education as required.
  • Pass drug & alcohol screen, physical exam, and background check.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 3 Certification (manufacturing/state) in a fire protection-related field.
  • NICET II or greater certification.
  • Fire Alarm & Ext A certification with 2-4 years' experience, or WBS Construction with 2-4 years' industry-related experience.
  • RME-I certification (if applicable).
  • Mechanically inclined with advanced communication, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
  • Specific, relevant experience in the installation, maintenance, repair, and service of Life Safety Systems and equipment.
  • Advanced industry segment knowledge.
  • Current Motor Vehicle License with a good driving record; Commercial Driver’s License required if carrying loads of hazardous materials.
  • Proficient with hand tools.
  • Ability to work in various environments, including hazardous conditions within plants, and in climatic weather (cold/heat) during day or night operations.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to talk and hear regularly.
  • Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 55 lbs.
  • Ability to climb stairwells up to 15 levels high and ascend/descend ladders (step, extension, cage) up to 24' high.
  • Ability to walk at a normal pace for up to 15 continuous minutes and work from a standing position for 8-10 hours.
  • Bending, climbing, and stooping as needed for access to equipment for repair and service.
  • Pass all test requirements to be approved for offshore work (if applicable).
