Fire Protection Officer - 2nd Shift

This position is a standard Firefighter role, responding to all hazards using specialized equipment and PPE to mitigate emergencies. Firefighters also conduct fire prevention activities, including inspections.

Responsibilities

• Respond to all emergencies in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
• Operate various emergency equipment required by the Scope of Practice.
• Inspect all emergency equipment, apparatuses, and personal protective equipment in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and manufacturers' recommendations.
• Conduct inspections in accordance with FM Global and organizational policies and procedures.
• Inspect fire extinguishers, fire hydrants, and associated fire protection systems in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
• Assist with Public Fire Prevention and Education Programs, including but not limited to fire extinguisher training and fire drills.
• Participate in required training programs to meet certification standards, including specialized training for equipment.
• Maintain all professional certifications.
• Ensure all reports, documents, and records are completed in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
• Properly plan, respond, mitigate, and recover from multiple types of emergency situations as outlined by the Scope of Services.
• Properly inspect, maintain, and operate all provided emergency equipment in accordance with organizational policies, procedures, and manufacturers' recommendations.
• Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Structural Fire Fighter 1 certification.
• Structural Fire Fighter 2 certification.
• Hazardous Materials Awareness certification.
• Hazardous Materials Operations certification.
• Texas Department of State and Health Services and/or National Registry EMT-Basic certification.

Certifications to Obtain Within 120 Days of Hire

• Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighter (ARFF).
• First Aid, AED Certification, and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation.
• Courage to Be Safe Certification.
• Class B Exempt Driver’s License.
• National Incident Management Systems: ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hazardous Materials Technician certification.
• Pumper Driver Operator certification.
• ARFF Driver Operator certification.
• Fire Officer 1 certification.
• Fire Service Instructor 1 certification.
• Fire Service Inspector 1 certification.
• Hazardous Materials Incident Commander certification.
• EMT-Paramedic certification.
• National Incident Management Systems: ICS 300 and 400.
• Associate’s degree in a related field.

Compliance Requirements

The Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) requires all firefighters working in the State to be certified to the following minimum standards:

• NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications.
• NFPA 1003, Standard for Airport Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications.
• NFPA 1072, Standard for Hazardous Material/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications.
• TDSHS or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Certification.
• OSHA 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response, requiring the use of the Incident Command System for all incidents involving hazardous materials.
