About the role

As a Fire Protection Engineer II in our Chapel Hill office, you will design fire protection systems for new construction and renovation projects. You will be responsible for design, specifications, and drawing reviews of automatic sprinkler, carbon dioxide and clean agent suppression systems, and fire alarm systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, specifications, and drawing review of fire protection systems
  • Perform calculations, determine system sizing and layouts, select equipment, conduct field surveys, and prepare and review shop drawings internally and externally
  • Develop proficiency in using CAD/BIM software
  • Operate computer for engineering calculation/selection software
  • Interpret applicable design codes, standards, and specification requirements
  • Communicate effectively, organize tasks, and prioritize multiple assignments
  • Collaborate individually and within teams

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Aerospace, Architectural, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Fire Protection or Mechanical)
  • Fundamentals of Engineering exam (FE) passed or ability to obtain Professional Engineering license (PE)
  • Strong knowledge of fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, and clean agent systems
  • Proficiency in computer operation for engineering calculation/selection software
  • Understanding of applicable design codes, standards, and specification requirements
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Quick technical comprehension and motivation focused on client outcomes

Qualifications

  • Pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (FE) or the ability to obtain the Professional Engineering license (PE) in one or more states
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Effective working individually and within team environments
