Fire Protection Designer II

About the role

Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) is seeking a Fire Protection Designer II to join our collaborative team in Chapel Hill. This position requires prior experience in design and layout of fire suppression systems, a strong understanding of NFPA codes and standards, and applicable building and fire codes.

Responsibilities

• Perform calculations and determine system sizing and layouts
• Select equipment and complete field surveys
• Prepare shop drawings and create details and notes for construction documents
• Modify and understand specifications for fire suppression systems
• Research and resolve building and fire related code and standard questions

Requirements

• Technical or Associate Degree in HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, or architectural design from an accredited technical institution or college
• Proficient in the current version of AutoCAD and/or REVIT
• Ability to learn and use engineering design programs
• Ability to interpret design criteria and convert it into specific layouts
• NICET Level I or II certified
