Purpose

Responsible for the design of fire protection engineering systems, including fire sprinkler, fire suppression, fire pump, fire alarm, and life safety systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform work under moderate supervision, exercising independent judgement and discretion on an occasional basis.
  • Work closely with senior staff to learn and assist in design tasks.
  • Attend and participate in project meetings.
  • Design fire protection and life safety systems.
  • Perform hydrant flow testing under supervision.
  • Conduct fire protection design calculations, including hydraulic analysis of fire water supply and demand.
  • Prepare project documents to track implementation from start to finish.
  • Apply knowledge of fire protection codes and standards to assignments.
  • Develop working knowledge of codes applicable to the discipline.
  • Attend coordination and design meetings as needed.
  • Complete work according to standard design principles and company quality procedures.
  • Perform non-routine and complex assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Review all work for completeness and accuracy before submission.
  • May coordinate design work for a project and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED (required).
  • Associate’s degree (preferred).
  • Three or more years of drafting and engineering technician experience in the fire protection industry.
  • Proficiency with Revit design software.
  • Experience with AutoSprink and familiarity with reading construction plans.

Salary range: $33–$43 per hour, with a comprehensive benefits package.
