Fire Protection Designer

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed fire protection system layout drawings using AutoCAD or other drafting software.
• Perform hydraulic calculations for water-based fire protection systems.
• Develop system designs including pipe sizing, routing, and component selection.
• Review architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings to coordinate fire protection system layouts.
• Apply applicable codes and standards (e.g., NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20) to all design work.
• Affix submittal packages, including drawings, calculations, and material data.
• Revise and update drawings based on redlines, design changes, and coordination feedback.
• Cook up with engineers, project managers, and different design experts to ensure project necessities and deadlines are met.
• Maintain organized project documentation and drawing files in line with company standards.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in fire protection system design and drafting.
• NICET Certification in Water-Based Systems Layout (Level I or II preferred, or capability to obtain).
• Working understanding of NFPA standards (e.g., NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20) and applicable building/fire codes.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar drafting software (Revit expertise preferred).
• Experience performing hydraulic calculations for fire protection systems.
• Capability to read and interpret construction documents, blueprints, and specifications.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• High School Diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in a related field preferred.
• Maintain a valid driver’s license and operate a motor vehicle as required for work assignments.
• Must be able to comply with company drug screening, including pre-employment drug screen.
• Must be able to pass criminal background check, in accordance with client necessities.
