Fire Prevention Inspector 2
About the role
The Carson City Fire Department seeks a Fire Prevention Inspector 2 to join our team. This position is covered by the Carson City Firefighters Association, Local #2251, and offers generous benefits.
Responsibilities
- Conduct inspections of building and property for fire hazards, efficiency of fire protective equipment, adequacy of fire exits and general compliance with fire prevention laws and standards.
- Perform functional tests of automatic fire extinguishing systems and alarm systems.
- Assist or conduct Fire investigations.
- Advise property owners on the removal of fire hazards and enforce compliance to correct hazards.
- Receive and investigate complaints of alleged fire hazards and recommended corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints; answer questions and provide information to the public.
- Review construction documents in relation to fire prevention laws and codes and for business license compliance.
- Conduct inspections for business license compliance.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Maintain incident reports and prepare reports.
- Perform work in a safe manner.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must submit to a pre-placement physical to be administered by the Carson City Fire Department. Applicants must also possess a current Nevada Driver's license, possess a current certification in CPR, ICC Fire Inspector 2 certification, ICC Fire Plans Examiner Certification, NFA 80 hour Fire Investigator Class/Certification or equivalent, Wildland Fire Investigator certification, and Fire Investigation - FI-210.
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or the equivalent and two years experience of sworn firefighting, or prevention and inspection work; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
- Knowledge of fire hazards, related prevention and abatement methods, fire prevention inspection methods and techniques, basic fire suppression methods, procedures and equipment, codes, laws, policies and procedures relating to fire prevention, building construction and material's used, public relations as they relate to obtaining cooperation and compliance to fire codes and laws, principles of training and public speaking.
- Ability to conduct complex fire inspection, plan reviews, and code enforcement work, respond to inquiries, complaints and requests for service, speak publicly and give presentations to the general public and other targeted audiences, deal effectively with property owners, managers and the general public in difficult work situations, detect fire hazards and make recommendations for their corrections, observe and record findings during inspections, communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, effectively use current digital technology, effectively use Microsoft Office Suite applications, investigate fires for possible cause.
