Job Responsibilities

  • Comply with the OHS Act and Regulations, BV Group Policy and Procedures, Upstream Minerals Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Fire Assay Supervisor position.
  • Work in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Carry out Fire Assay floor procedures in accordance with documented SOPs and other work instructions.
  • Ensure proper functioning of Fire Assay floor operations by:
    • Maintain monitoring of workflow and coordination based on sample age and priority status.
    • Maintain monitoring of staffing levels and coordination of staff to meet sample volumes.
    • Train and orient Fire Assay Technicians to the Fire Assay floor procedures.
    • Oversee staff and ensure that Fire Assay floor procedures and other work instructions are followed.
    • Maintain monitoring of the performance of equipment such as flux dispenser, mixer, fusion, and cupellation furnaces etc.
    • Maintain an adequate inventory of consumable supplies and chemicals.
    • Maintain monitoring of the quality of consumables and chemicals.
    • PRACTICE GOOD HOUSEKEEPING.
  • Communicate general laboratory issues to the Operations Manager as appropriate.
  • Report any deviation(s) from documented procedures to the Operations Manager.
  • Report any unsafe condition(s) observed in the department to the Operations Manager.
  • Report any non-conforming work, customer samples or test data to the Operations Manager.
  • Submit to testing for lead exposure on a regular basis.
  • Participate actively in quality incidents investigations.

Requirements

Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs for 10 feet.

Exposure to chemical hazards.

Exposure to controlled heat sources.

Exposure to Lead.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience in a laboratory setting preferred.

Knowledge of fire assay procedures and safety protocols.

Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs for 10 feet.
