About the Role

The Fire Alarm Apprentice assists the Fire Alarm Superintendent in the installation of fire alarm systems. This role is ideal for individuals looking to develop a career in the fire life safety industry and advance to a Fire Alarm Technician position.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Fire Alarm Superintendent and project lead with installation of conduit, low voltage wiring, control panels, and other fire alarm equipment.
• Maintain tools in serviceable working condition on the job site.
• Assist in cleaning the job site, tools, and equipment.
• Carry equipment, such as ladders, tools, and replacement parts from vehicle or laydown area to required location.
• Develop a working knowledge of fire alarm and special hazards installation under various teaching practices.
• Study NFPA 72 and NEC 70 to obtain NICET Certification and advance to a Fire Alarm Technician role.
• Follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous Communication program, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in weekly Toolbox talks and know the location of all related safety documentation on each project.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 0 years of Fire Life Safety Industry experience, specifically in Fire Alarm, required.
• 1+ years of professional computer skills.
• Desire and ability to learn skills necessary for promotion to a Fire Alarm & Security Technician.
• Must comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, including customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreements.
• Efficient time management, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize initiatives and business goals.
• Demonstrated critical thinking skills and ability to collaborate with all levels of employees.
• Strong diligence and accuracy.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to travel 90% of the time, locally.

• Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers.

• Work Environment: Regularly work outside and be exposed to hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise. Occasionally work indoors in an office setting, alone, or with others. Must consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required by company safety policies.
