Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, or repair fire and security systems, alarm devices, or related equipment, following blueprints of electrical layouts and building plans.
  • Mount and fasten control panels, fire alarm devices, door and window contacts, sensors, or video cameras. Attach electrical and telephone wiring to connect components.
  • Program fire alarm and security panels.
  • Demonstrate systems for customers and explain details, such as the causes and consequences of false alarms. Provide training to customers on system usage.
  • Test and repair circuits and sensors, following wiring and system specifications. Test electrical circuits or components for proper functioning. Repair electrical circuits or wiring.
  • Feed cables through access holes, roof spaces, or cavity walls to reach fixture outlets. Position and terminate cables, wires, or strapping.
  • Examine systems to locate problems, such as loose connections or broken insulation. Test backup batteries, keypad programming, sirens, or other security features to ensure proper functioning or diagnose malfunctions.
  • Drill holes for wiring in wall studs, joists, ceilings, or floors. Inspect installation sites and study work orders, building plans, and installation manuals to determine materials requirements and installation procedures.
  • Prepare documents, such as fire alarm inspection reports, invoices, or warranties.
  • Consult with clients to assess risks and determine security requirements.
  • Mount raceways and conduits. Fasten wires to wood framing using staplers.
  • Adjust sensitivity of units based on room structures and manufacturers' recommendations using programming keypads.
  • Stay informed of new products and developments in the field.
  • Order replacement parts as needed.

Requirements

  • Valid fire alarm license.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Proven experience in programming fire alarm and security panels.
  • Knowledge of electrical layouts, building plans, and wiring installation.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
