Convergint is looking for a full-time, enthusiastic, results-driven, and forward-thinking Fire Alarm Technician to join our team. In this role, you will install, program, perform system start-up/check-out, testing/commissioning, customer training, and complete all associated documentation on assigned projects, including more complex ones. Responsibilities

  • Install, program, test, repair, and service a variety of systems and equipment, including security, fire alarm & life safety, and/or building automation, with guidance as needed.
  • Serve as the key interface for technical support and training for customers, ensuring maximum customer satisfaction.
  • Refer complex issues to higher-level colleagues.
  • Use working knowledge of blueprints, schematics, manuals, and other specifications to determine installation procedures, with occasional assistance for more complex specifications.
  • Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to repair equipment using knowledge of electronics and standard test instruments.
  • Apply a working understanding of building, mechanical, sprinkler, and fire codes.
  • Coach and mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Operate systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance, and identify malfunctions.
  • Write routine programs for systems.
  • Ensure Convergint is the customer’s first choice for service by acting as "our customer’s best service provider" at all times.
  • Consult with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work.
  • Advise management on customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques, and standards, as well as suggest product improvements.
  • Execute technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets, including programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and ongoing technical support.
  • Identify potential project risks, communicate them to appropriate parties, and assist in developing strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and deadlines.
  • Work with Fire Alarm Designer to ensure fire alarm systems meet all relevant codes and standards.
  • Collaborate closely with the Project Manager and/or Operations Manager, assisting in overall project coordination, making recommendations for quality of work, potential scope changes, and identifying ways to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested or required.

Requirements

  • Exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure; ability to anticipate and meet customer needs.
  • Ability to convey complex subject matter to a non-technical audience.
  • Willingness to learn technical skills related to fire alarm systems and/or electronic security systems.
  • Self-starter who works well with little supervision.
  • Understanding of electronics, including Ohm’s law, resistor color codes, and relay logic for controlling third-party equipment.
  • Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude (e.g., proficiency with hand and power tools such as drills, screwdrivers, wire strippers, hacksaws, and crimpers).
  • Experience programming, troubleshooting, and commissioning Edwards or equivalent fire alarm systems of small to medium complexity.
  • Drive to achieve necessary certifications/licensing related to products, industry, and city/state requirements.
  • Willingness to coach and mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • NICET Level II in Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Low voltage electrical license as required by local/state authority.
  • Ability to travel locally to jobsites on a regular basis; minimal overnight travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School/GED or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years' experience programming enterprise-level fire alarm systems.
  • Local/State Electrical License.
  • NICET Level I – Fire Alarm Systems.
  • Willingness to operate aerial lifts around 20 feet.
  • Capability of obtaining a basic security clearance.

Preferred (but not required):

  • Associate degree in Electronics or related field, including equivalent military experience.
  • 3-5 years of relevant field service experience.
  • EST4 Certification.
  • NICET Level II.

Pay

The anticipated compensation for this position is $33 - $38 per hour. Individual pay rates may vary depending on the job, department, location, skills, experience, certifications, specific licenses, and education of the applicant.
