About the Role

This individual will design and coordinate fire alarm systems for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings. The role involves creating finished representations of alarm systems using drawing and drafting skills and tools. The drawings produced will guide every phase of construction, both on-site and in the office. The designer will handle initial project planning, including scheduling, material stock listing, change analysis, and problem-solving. Close coordination with the project manager, project superintendent, and sales representative is required throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction contract documents and coordinate with sub-contractors and General Contractor/owner to gather required information for designing the project’s fire alarm system.
  • Use analytical thinking and problem-solving to determine construction feasibility and system possibilities.
  • Create detailed drawings using AutoCAD, AutoSprink, or HydraCAD-type programs.
  • Create stock lists for all materials required throughout the project.
  • Perform calculations and develop initial schedules for preliminary project work.
  • Maintain design historical records for future use.
  • Develop and maintain positive, ongoing relationships with customers to ensure the company meets expectations.
  • Coordinate with other offices to ensure proper handover of job information.
  • Complete other assigned responsibilities as directed by immediate supervisor or WSFP management.

Requirements

  • Applicable degree from a technical school or college.
  • NICET certification is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability with AutoCAD or other specialized fire sprinkler layout software.
  • Project management experience is a plus.
  • Proven ability to perform work in a timely manner and meet deadlines.
  • Three years’ experience in commercial, industrial, and residential design.
  • Good communication skills and willingness to coordinate and work well with others.
  • Willingness to pass a post-offer drug screen test, background, and reference check.
