Responsibilities
- Uses prescribed methods to perform specific and daily assignments of a Lead Designer.
- Applies standard practices and techniques in situations, adjusts and gathers data, and follows operations through a series of related steps or processes.
- Performs a variety of technical tasks, including:
- Proficiency expected in the use of computers for design and CAD applications.
- Proficient use of computer spreadsheets and design programs for engineering analysis and equipment selections.
- Train staff in use of computer spreadsheets and design programs.
- May participate in preparing proposals and client presentations.
- Initiate additional service requests and turn over to Project Manager for submittal to client.
- Calculate costs and time schedules for proposed work.
- Organize and maintain project files.
- Assigned to a project team and makes design recommendations.
- Document existing conditions and perform troubleshooting.
- Prepare the drawings of designs he or she has originated.
- Coincide with other design professionals for clearance requirements.
- Incorporate design concepts from schematic design into design development and work with project team to produce construction documents.
- Research non-routine code issues and obtain interpretations from code officials.
- Develop details as required for a specific project.
- Edit master specification sections to be project specific.
- Develop control sequences for temperature control systems.
- Review drawings for compliance with company and industry standards and quality.
- Prepare engineering opinion of probable cost for mechanical or electrical systems and review construction manager/contractor cost estimates.
- Attend construction progress meetings to solve non-routine technical issues and produce reports.
- Review addendums, proposal requests and change orders.
- Review submittal and RFI’s.
- Produce final punch lists.
- Maintain liaison with the client after project completion.
- Involved in developing and maintaining company design and production standards.
- Actively participate in technical presentations to both in-house staff and educational opportunities outside of the office.
- Participate in technical and professional societies.
Qualifications
- Recommended: 6-8 years of demonstrated design experience.
- Recommended: 11-15 years professional experience.
- Expertise in computer operation for engineering design programs and computer aided drafting.
- Working knowledge of mechanical or electrical system design.
- Understanding and knowledge of applicable design codes.
- Must be able to communicate with a variety of individuals; must be able to follow verbal and written instructions/directions and respond to inquiries.
- Must be able to travel to work-sites as needed or required.
