Key Responsibilities
- Design fire alarm and life safety systems, including fire alarm detection and notification systems, voice evacuation systems, and mass notification systems (as applicable).
- Prepare design drawings and construction documents using Autodesk Revit and/or AutoCAD.
- Perform device layout, circuiting, panel sizing, and battery calculations.
- Coverage fire alarm systems with electrical, mechanical, architectural, and structural disciplines.
- Interpret and apply applicable codes and standards, including NFPA standards (NFPA 72, NFPA 70) and local and state building/fire codes.
- Assist with specifications, design narratives, and submittal reviews.
- Participate in project meetings and coordination efforts.
- Support construction administration, including responding to RFIs and reviewing shop drawings.
- Ensure designs meet project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
- Mid level experience in fire alarm design.
- Experience in the AEC consulting environment preferred.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and/or AutoCAD.
- Working knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, especially NFPA 72.
- Familiarity with fire alarm system manufacturers such as Notifier, Siemens, and Simplex.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with one or more of the following is preferred:
- NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems, Level II or higher preferred.
- BIM coordination and clash detection.
- Construction practices and field coordination.
- Low-voltage system integration including security and access control.
