Responsibilities

  • Design fire detection/alarm, clean agent fire suppression, pre-engineered fire suppression, non-water-based fire protection, low voltage/security systems using working knowledge of fire alarm codes.
  • Perform battery and voltage drop calculations.
  • Prepare submittal packages for the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and manage subsequent correspondence to achieve design approval.
  • Participate in coordination and design kick-off meetings with contractors.
  • Prepare project package submittals, including voltage drop calculations, materials, and equipment lists, and requisition materials for installation (with assistance from the Design Manager or Senior Sprinkler Designer).
  • Conduct field surveys to ensure designs are appropriate for structures (with assistance from the Design Manager or Senior Sprinkler Designer).
  • Assist field personnel with design-related installation issues.
  • Prepare and submit final job close-out documents after final acceptance testing.
  • Adhere to SFP’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous Communication program, policies, and procedures, and maintain awareness of safety documentation on each project.
  • Attend seminars or training sessions to stay updated on the latest technology, codes, and standards.
  • Communicate professionally with internal and external customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • NICET II or NICET III and/or state-required certification required; equivalent experience considered if pursuing NICET education.
  • 1-2 years’ experience as an alarm designer strongly preferred.
  • Construction experience, mechanical aptitude, and basic/advanced math skills required.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with AlarmCAD, AutoCAD, or other CAD software preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to comply with SFP’s Drug and Alcohol policy and pass background screenings, including customer-specific requirements.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Primarily office-based with occasional fieldwork.
  • Requires sitting for long periods, with occasional bending, kneeling, balancing, lifting (under 20 lbs), walking, standing, ascending/descending stairs, driving, twisting, and reaching above/below shoulders.
  • Frequent driving and walking for extended periods.
  • Occasional exposure to outdoor conditions, including hot/cold temperatures, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical hazards, and noise.
  • Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety policies during site visits.
