About the Role

The Fire Alarm Designer position operates with minimal supervision to complete project designs and submittals. You will be expected to be very familiar with SFP’s quality documents, procedures, and work instructions related to the design function.

Responsibilities

• Design fire detection/alarm, clean agent fire suppression, pre-engineered fire suppression, non-water-based fire protection, low voltage/security systems using working knowledge of fire alarm codes.
• Perform battery and voltage drop calculations.
• Prepare submittal packages for the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) and handle subsequent correspondence to achieve design approval.
• Participate in coordination meetings and design kick-off meetings with contractors.
• Prepare project package submittals including voltage drop calculations, materials, and equipment lists for installation, and requisition materials for the job (with assistance from the Design Manager or Senior Sprinkler Designer).
• Conduct field surveys to ensure designs are appropriate for structures (with assistance from the Design Manager or Senior Sprinkler Designer).
• Assist field personnel with design-related installation issues.
• Prepare and submit final job close-out documents after final acceptance testing.
• Understand and follow SFP’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous Communication program, policies, and procedures. Know the location of all related safety documentation on each project.
• Attend seminars or training sessions to stay updated on the latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
• Communicate professionally with internal and external customers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• NICET II or NICET III and/or state-required certification required; equivalent experience will be considered if the individual is pursuing NICET education.
• 1-2 years of experience as an alarm designer strongly preferred.
• Construction experience, mechanical aptitude, and basic/advanced math skills required.
• Ability to effectively read, write, and communicate in English with employees and customers.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to comply with SFP’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, including customer-specific requirements based on contractual agreements.

Skills

• Proficient in operating a computer and using Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with AlarmCAD, AutoCAD, and/or other CAD software preferred.
