About the role

The Finishing Supervisor will lead the finishing team, ensuring optimal efficiency and effectiveness across finishing operations in Building Two. This role guarantees products meet stringent quality standards, customer schedules are adhered to, and safety protocols are rigorously upheld. The ideal candidate will demonstrate robust leadership, mastery of manufacturing techniques, and a commitment to excellence, driving improvements in operational effectiveness and executing strategies to deliver business results. Success is measured by SQDEP+: Safety, Quality, Delivery, Equipment, and Productivity, with an additional focus on intangible attributes like employee engagement and organizational culture.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and motivate a diverse team of front-line manufacturing staff, machine operators, and production leaders, fostering collaboration, continuous improvement, and skill enhancement.
  • Plan and follow production schedules to meet business targets and deadlines, coordinating with other departments as needed.
  • Ensure all production products and processes meet quality standards and specifications through inspections and corrective actions.
  • Actively participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives, including Schaefer's Production System and Kaizen improvement efforts, to optimize processes and reduce waste.
  • Provide thorough training to new hires and current employees on Schaefer's Quality Management System documentation and safe equipment operation.
  • Promote a culture of safety awareness, enforce protocols, and address safety concerns or violations immediately in collaboration with the Safety Leader.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in final assembly, painting, or manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory or leadership position.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience and/or exposure is preferred.

Skills

  • Strong technical knowledge of assembly or painting techniques, equipment, and materials.
  • Outstanding leadership and communication skills to motivate and manage teams effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business performance.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other relevant software applications.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, and walking (8-10 hours depending on the task).
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
  • Use of approved Safety Glasses, hearing protection, and safety-toed boots is required.
  • Gloves may be required depending on assigned tasks.
