Position Summary

The Finishing Operations Supervisor is responsible for leading the day-to-day operations of the finishing department, ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and customer delivery expectations are consistently achieved. This role provides leadership to Finishing Operators and support staff while driving continuous improvement initiatives, employee development, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop Finishing Operators and support personnel.

  • Foster a positive, accountable, and safety-focused work environment.

  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching conversations, and disciplinary actions when appropriate.

  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, and training new employees.

  • Build cross-functional capabilities through employee development and succession planning.

Production Management

  • Supervise daily finishing operations to ensure production schedules are met safely, efficiently, and on time.

  • Monitor workflow and adjust staffing or priorities to maximize productivity.

  • Cook up closely with Production Planning, Press, Shipping, Maintenance, and Quality teams.

  • Ensure equipment uptime and proactively communicate production challenges.

Quality

  • Ensure finished products meet all customer specifications and quality standards.

  • Promote a culture of “Right First Time” quality.

  • Investigate quality concerns and implement corrective actions.

  • Monitor scrap, waste, and rework while driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Safety

  • Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and all company safety policies.

  • Conduct regular safety observations and reinforce safe work practices.

  • Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions when necessary.

  • Ensure employees properly utilize PPE and follow all established procedures.

Continuous Improvement

  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing principles to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity.

  • Monitor departmental KPIs including productivity, downtime, waste, quality, and on-time delivery.

  • Participate in Kaizen events and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Recommend equipment, process, and workflow improvements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • 3+ years of manufacturing leadership experience.

  • Experience supervising finishing, converting, or production operations within labels, packaging, printing, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.

  • Strong understanding of production scheduling and manufacturing workflows.

  • Experience coaching and developing hourly production employees.

  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and production reporting systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in flexographic printing, labels, flexible packaging, or converting operations.

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement methodologies.

  • Experience with ERP or manufacturing execution systems.

  • Familiarity with quality systems, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
