Financial Reporting Manager
About the role
Lead a team of accountants responsible for fulfilling financial reporting obligations for Southern Company Gas, a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission registrant, and its four reporting segments: Gas Distribution Operations, Gas Marketing Services, Gas Pipeline Services, and Corporate. This position ensures compliance with SEC, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and Sarbanes-Oxley Act requirements and coordinates with internal and external auditors. Located in Atlanta, Georgia with an in-office presence four days per week, subject to business needs.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of three to four accounting professionals using Oracle Cloud and Workiva to fulfill financial reporting obligations.
- Oversee preparation and review of monthly management reports, quarterly and annual SEC filings, annual FERC filings, subsidiary financial statements, and annual compliance filings.
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley Act, including internal control evidence compilation and review of direct reports' control activities.
- Support audits and financial statement reviews for Southern Company Gas and its subsidiaries.
- Drive process improvements and workflow efficiency in a dynamic environment.
- Foster employee growth through coaching, training, performance management, and feedback.
- Analyze financial transactions and operating results.
- Coordinate with Southern Financial Reporting, leadership, the Board of Directors, and the Controls and Compliance Committee.
- Partner across teams to support all financial reporting obligations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field (required).
- Master’s degree or advanced degree (preferred).
- Certified Public Accountant designation or equivalent professional certification (preferred).
- Ten or more years of accounting or financial reporting experience.
- Strong proficiency in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and SEC reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with external financial reporting, including Current Report filings, financial statement preparation, and review.
- Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley Act, specifically Disclosure Controls and Procedures (preferred).
- Experience using Oracle Cloud and Workiva (preferred).
- Working knowledge of the natural gas or electric utility industry and FERC Uniform System of Accounts (preferred).
- Experience coaching, mentoring, and developing employees.
