Position Summary
The Financial Reporting Accountant will work as part of the Financial Reporting team responsible for ensuring that all financial statements, reports and disclosures are complete, accurate and timely for SEC reporting, and for internal reporting to the Executive team. This role reports to the Financial Reporting Supervisor in our Downtown Houston, TX office. Hybrid work schedule is an option for remote work on Mondays and Fridays. Salary and level commensurate with experience.
Essential Job Functions
- Aid in the preparation of financial statements and related schedules for the monthly financial package
- Compile monthly and quarterly variance analysis and explain significant variances in financial statement accounts, utilizing input from the respective account owners in the Accounting department
- Aid in the compilation of 10-K and 10-Q drafts, updating disclosures for the current reporting period and completing financial statement disclosure checklists
- Cook with information for 10-K/Q disclosures
- Ensure accuracy and consistency across all SEC filings (e.g., 10-K, 10-Q, etc), including earnings releases and investor presentations and maintain organized tie-out supporting documentation
- Record monthly journal entries, including preparation of related supporting schedules and account reconciliations, as needed
- Reconcile intercompany receivable and payable accounts, and ensure intercompany balances are properly eliminated on a consolidated basis
- Coordinate with independent auditors in order to facilitate a successful audit and provide documentation requests, as necessary
- Maintain SOX controls
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or similar discipline
- Minimum 1 year of experience
- Big 4 or similar public accounting experience
- Exposure to financial reporting and SEC filings
- Exposure to complex accounting subjects (e.g., revenue recognition, leases, stock-based compensation, business combinations)
- Excel proficient
- Proactive and deadline driven
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with accounting research tools
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer
- Must have stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions
- Must have strength to lift and carry files weighing up to 10 pounds
- Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen
- Must have hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA license (or actively pursuing certification)
- Experience with data analytics, visualization, and automation tools
- Upstream oil and gas accounting experience
- Experience with Workiva
- Ability to independently draft accounting position papers
- Experience with Planful (or similar applications such as OneStream or Hyperion)
