Financial Litigation Technician

About the role

The United States Attorney for the District of Utah is seeking a technician in financial litigation to support Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) by providing technical assistance services. This position is also open to applicants eligible through Merit Staffing procedures.

Responsibilities

• Communicating with debtors on payment plans and procedures regarding financial litigation.
• Processing debt collection for criminal and/or civil debts.
• Drafting letters, forms, and/or reports to initiate the collection of debts.
• Performing periodic internal control audits of financial litigation and debt collection case records to ensure accuracy of program operations.

Requirements

• Conditions of employment include a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit, and tax checks, and drug testing.
• Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
• Must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
• If selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
• Must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

• GS-7: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in Federal service, including communicating with debtors on payment plans, and procedures regarding financial litigation; processing debt collection for criminal and/or civil debts; and drafting letters, forms and/or reports to initiate the collection of debts.
• GS-8: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level, including performing internal control audits of financial litigation and/or debt collection; investigating financial assets and transactions and/or providing analyses of information from debtors; interpreting and/or enforcing judgments in criminal and/or civil cases pertaining to financial litigation to include criminal fines, assessments, interests, penalties, restitution, criminal forfeitures, bond forfeitures and/or court costs.
