About the role

The State of Hawaii, Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Division of Financial Institutions, Field Examination Branch seeks candidates for Financial Institution Examiner I and Financial Institution Examiner II positions. These roles are located on Oahu (Downtown Honolulu).

Responsibilities

  • Conducts field and off-site examinations of regulated institutions to assess their financial condition and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Reviews, replies, and receives responses from institutions in response to examination findings to ensure corrective action has been implemented and issues are properly addressed.
  • For Financial Institution Examiner I: Assists in the conduct of field and off-site examinations of smaller regulated entities and other smaller financial institutions.
  • For Financial Institution Examiner II: Conducts field and off-site full scope examinations of financial institutions.

Requirements

  • Legal Authorization to Work: Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with at least twelve (12) semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing subjects.
  • General Experience: Two (2) years experience in any one or a combination of the following: professional accounting or auditing experience; or experience teaching accounting at the college or university level.
  • Specialized Experience: One (1) year for Financial Institution Examiner I and two (2) years for Financial Institution Examiner II. Responsible professional experience which demonstrated knowledge of the business operations of a financial institution(s), including the interrelatedness of various financial transactions and their effect on the overall condition of the institution.
  • Financial Institution Examining Experience: None

Skills

  • Knowledge of financial institutions' business operations, including the interrelatedness of various financial transactions and their effect on the overall condition of the institution.
  • Ability to review, analyze, and recommend or approve loan applications, investments, and other actions involving the properties or monies of others held in trust by the institution.
  • Proficiency in auditing the business operations of financial institutions.
  • Experience supervising various departments or activities within a financial institution.
