Financial Counselor II

Responsibilities
- Provide financial screening for patients in a clinical specialty of the Emory Clinic, Inc., to secure maximum reimbursement through upfront identification and collection of patient liabilities.
- Maintain in-house accounts to improve revenue and timely payment of claims.
- Complete cost estimates and follow guidelines associated with pre-payment process.
- Maintain patient confidentiality; comply with HIPAA and compliance guidelines established by Emory Healthcare.
- Financial Counseling II must have knowledge of all aspects of Emory Healthcare processes from registration to billing.
- Interact with section staff, patients, and Financial Counselors to handle financial arrangements, account inquiries, and account reconciliation.
- Financial Counselor II must collect payments or determine insurance eligibility for patients prior to their visits.
- Act as a liaison between Patient Financial Services (PFS) and clinic operations to resolve customer inquiries related to billing and customer satisfaction.
- Train new staff members and perform monthly audits for Financial Counselor I.
- Serve as a central resource for section faculty, staff, outside physicians, EUH, CWL, and other departments regarding financial and insurance requirements.
- Provide backup for other sections and cover satellite clinics as required.
- Complete COBRA forms and other necessary documentation in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with Social Workers and Clinical staff regarding patient resources when required.
- Perform all aspects of benefits verification.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma and minimum of four (4) years healthcare experience, two (2) of which must be in patient financial services; or any combination of equivalent education and experience.

Environmental Factors
- Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and work tasks.
- Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: blood-borne pathogen exposure, bio-hazardous waste, chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors, communicable diseases, electrical shock, floor surfaces, hot/cold temperatures, indoor/outdoor conditions, latex, lighting, patient care/handling injuries, radiation, shift work, travel may be required.
- Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
