Loyola Medicine, a member of Trinity Health, is a nationally ranked academic, quaternary care system based in Chicago's western suburbs. With its main campus at Loyola University Medical Center, Loyola Medicine is part of a comprehensive three-hospital system including Loyola University Medical Center, Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, and MacNeal Hospital. The Financial Counselor is responsible for coordinating payment sources and securing reimbursement for hospital services. This role supports patients seeking or receiving care by educating them on insurance options, assisting with financial applications, establishing payment plans, and collecting patient financial responsibilities. The Financial Counselor advocates on behalf of patients while ensuring accurate financial processing and supporting organizational revenue goals.
Responsibilities
- Provide financial counseling to patients, explaining insurance coverage, financial assistance options, and payment responsibilities
- Assist with insurance and financial assistance applications, including charity care when appropriate
- Generate cost estimates and collect patient payments (co-pays, deductibles, balances)
- Review and update financial and insurance information; monitor self-pay and eligibility-pending accounts
- Collaborate with internal departments and external agencies to resolve coverage or billing issues
- Ensure accurate documentation and maintain HIPAA compliance
- Support department goals and demonstrate Trinity Health values in all interactions

Pay
Pay Range: $18.16 – $28.14 per hour. Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
