Financial Counselor

About the role

The Financial Counselor plays a critical role in realizing CommonSpirit Health's mission by assisting patients with the financial aspects of their healthcare journey. This position ensures patients understand their insurance benefits and available financial options, helping them navigate often complex payment responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Discuss health insurance benefits, billing practices, pre-collections, and set up payment arrangements.
• Identify potential financial resources such as Medicaid, Marketplace plans, COBRA, and financial assistance programs.
• Obtain pre-authorizations, communicate approvals/denials to clinical staff, provide cost estimates, and assist patients with charity care or financial assistance applications.
• Work collaboratively with clinic staff and other facilities to ensure efficient, compliant, and patient-centered financial services.
• Provide comprehensive financial counseling, including explaining clinical office procedures, medical terminology, and basic understanding of federal/state regulations related to healthcare.

Requirements

• A high school graduate or equivalent.
• Experience in healthcare revenue cycle functions, including insurance or registration, is preferred.
• Experience in healthcare collections, registration, or customer service is preferred.

Qualifications

• Strong working knowledge of clinical office procedures, medical terminology, and basic understanding of federal/state regulations related to healthcare.
• Exceptional communication skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, self-motivation, and computer proficiency are essential.
