About the role

This position is in the Administration Services Division/General Accounting Bureau. It exists to assist the General Accounting Bureau in processing payments for both employees and vendors conducting business with the Department of Health. The role supports health equity initiatives by ensuring accurate and timely financial transactions that improve health outcomes for all people in New Mexico.

Responsibilities

  • Assist auditors by creating a variety of payment vouchers and approvals for internal and external entities.
  • Adhere to State/Federal rules, regulations, and the New Mexico State Procurement Code.
  • Distribute State warrants and payment advices to appropriate vendors.
  • Create payment vouchers for the Department of Health Administration Services Division.
  • Distribute various payment vouchers to auditors.
  • Ensure reconciliation of State warrants and process warrant cancellations.
  • Manage and reconcile State-issued payment cards.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Customers

Department of Health State employees, suppliers, and other internal and external customers.

Ideal Candidate

  • Knowledge of SHARE Financial.
  • Ability to provide professional customer service.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with accuracy and good organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of the New Mexico Procurement Code.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Six (6) months of experience in bookkeeping, office administration, auditing, accounting, and/or finance.
  • Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience.

Employment Requirements

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed primarily in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminals (VDTs).
  • Extensive use of personal computers, faxes, copiers, printers, and phones.
  • Extended periods of sitting, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, kneeling, and crawling.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Some travel may be required.
