About the role

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has two opportunities for Cost Accounting Analysts (Financial Business Analyst 2) to support Cost Accounting Team within FIN-INST and report to the Cost Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Cost Accounting Compliance: Support indirect budgets, indirect cost pool and allocation base analysis, rate development support, and forward pricing submissions
  • Data Quality Assurance: Work with colleagues across organizations to ensure data quality through reconciliations and corrective actions
  • Audit Support: Serve as audit liaison for OIG and internal audit engagements and prepare the annual Incurred Cost Submission (ICS)
  • Financial Analysis & Reporting: Provide decision support to management through indirect cost analysis, reporting, and forecasting
  • Internal Controls: Support internal controls through exemption and new project forms processing
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain the Triad Disclosure Statement to ensure an accurate and complete description of the LANL cost model; conduct ad hoc regulatory research in CAS, FAR, and DOE Orders
  • Capital Project Oversight: Participate in the funding determination committee, ensuring the appropriate funding source is assigned to capital projects
  • ERP Implementation: Support SAP ERP implementation including business requirements documentation and testing
  • Special Projects: Complete varying degrees of complex reports and research under the direction of the Cost Accounting Manager and senior analysts

Requirements

  • Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Finance/Accounting Experience
  • Working knowledge of accounting and financial concepts, including financial planning and analysis, budget formulation and execution, and general business operations
  • Experience preparing and monitoring financial data, preparing financial reports and vouchers with meaningful explanatory notes and documentation
  • Ability to prepare reconciliations and identify errors in data sets
  • Experience completing special projects and reports under the guidance of managers and senior analysts
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills in working on projects with a variety of complexities
  • Ability to use basic to intermediate accounting concepts, productivity tools, and basic mathematical/algebra formulas to assess and analyze data and perform assigned job functions
  • Leadership Ability to train and mentor junior analysts and student employees
  • Demonstrated proficient use of computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Experience working with intermediate Excel functions and creating charts
  • Experience extracting and analyzing data from software such as Oracle enterprise financials and MicroStrategy business intelligence software for review, reporting, or further analysis
  • Ability to utilize virtual meeting software, calendars, and messaging software to telework effectively
  • Communication, Customer Service, Organization, Teamwork, Dependability Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining high standards of work quality. Must be able to organize and prioritize work to meet both scheduled and ad hoc deadlines
  • Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field and 5 years of relevant experience; or the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience directly related to the occupation. MBA is preferred

Qualifications

  • Work experience in a federal government or government contractor environment
  • Experience with Financial Analysis and Tools and understanding how ERP design may lead to certain financial outcomes
  • Strive to understand the reasons behind numbers you report
  • Experience with constructing logical arguments in memos or audit responses
  • You thrive in ambiguity and are not put off by problems that lack an obvious answer
  • Strong understanding of federal appropriations law, Cost Accounting Standards, and Federal Acquisition Regulations
  • Experience with Oracle Financials, SAP, or similar enterprise-wide financial system
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Professional certification, e.g., Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant
