Financial Assistance Rep
About the role
The Financial Assistance Representative is responsible for financial assistance processing, general admissions, and the patient registration process. This position verifies a patient's ability to qualify for a particular program that will help with their financial responsibility. The Financial Counselor will also verify third party payer accounts. The Financial Assistance Representative communicates and collaborates with Patient Access team members and other ancillary departments as needed.
Responsibilities
- Verifies a patient's ability to qualify for a particular program that will help with their financial responsibility.
- Verifies third party payer accounts.
- Communicates and collaborates with Patient Access team members and other ancillary departments as needed.
- Aid patients in applying for state and federal government funded programs such as; Medicaid and Charity Care.
- Knowledge of TRICARE/CHAMPUS, Workers' Compensation; No Fault Auto, and commercial insurance payers; billing and reimbursement guidelines and methodologies for state and federal government and non-government payers; insurance terminology; medical terminology, EMTALA, HIPAA privacy, and compliance practices.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must complete Presumptive Eligibility certification within three months of their start date.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing sufficient to perform the essential functions; read, understand, and apply policies and guidelines; obtain information from a variety of sources
- 0-1 year experience in Healthcare relevant customer service environment
- Knowledge of general computer and data entry functions
- Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to keep up in very fast paced environment
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing sufficient to perform the essential functions; read, understand, and apply policies and guidelines; obtain information from a variety of sources is required. Bilingual preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Must complete Presumptive Eligibility certification within three months of their start date, when applicable. HFMA Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) preferred, not required.
- Experience: 0-1 year experience in Healthcare registration or relevant customer service environment required. Knowledge of general computer and data entry functions required. Previous experience in a physicians' office or hospital setting is preferred. Excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills required. Ability to keep up in very fast paced environment required.
