Financial and Business Operations Analyst

BCFD is a dynamic department that provides critical business, financial, and operational services across APL, including contracts, procurement, accounting, financial planning, facilities design and construction, maintenance, planning, and logistics.
About the Role
As a Financial and Business Operations Analyst in our Finance Strategy and Operations Group, you will partner with department leadership to manage key elements of BCFD's operating and capital portfolios while delivering the financial analysis and business insights that support strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review and analyze financial data, including performing monthly updates of project plans, highlighting financial spending and staffing trends, identifying anomalies and calculating financial projections.
- Support the development and maintenance of budgets, forecasts, spend plans, and estimates at completion.
- Analyze financial and operational data and help identify spending, staffing, usage, and performance trends.
- Create and maintain WBS structures, charging guidance, and financial records in coordination with project managers and group leadership.
- Review invoices, purchasing-card transactions, and other financial activity for accuracy, appropriate documentation, and compliance.
- Maintain oversight of the department’s full utility portfolio, including consumption, costs, budgets, forecasting, long-range requirements, and regular reporting on trends, risks, and performance.
- Partner with Facilities staff on energy-management efforts, conservation opportunities, utility planning, and the financial implications of operational decisions.
- Cook up the department’s software portfolio, including requests, licenses, renewals, access, usage, costs, and associated records.
- Identify opportunities to improve data quality, reduce manual work, and strengthen business processes.
- Work across multiple assignments and priorities while communicating status, risks, and needed actions.
Qualifications
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- Demonstrate strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to organize, analyze, and interpret data.
- Experience working with complex datasets to organize, analyze, and draw meaningful insights from information.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, and communicate effectively with internal customers and stakeholders.
What You’ll Go Above and Beyond With
- Hold a Master’s degree (MBA or similar) in a relevant discipline.
- Have strong analytical skills with the ability to model and forecast financial data.
- Be experienced with APL Business Applications, Facilities Applications or comparable financial/project management systems.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or other business intelligence tools.
- Experience in creating dashboards that reduce manual reporting time and improve visibility into business performance metrics.

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
