Financial Analyst, Jr.
About The Role
We are seeking a Junior Financial Analyst to join our DHS team in a fully remote capacity. This role is ideal for a finance professional with at least three years of experience who is capable of obtaining and maintaining a DHS Public Trust clearance.
The successful candidate will support the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Protective Service by providing comprehensive financial and budgetary support. This position involves assisting in budget formulation, tracking obligations, consolidating financial records, and supporting process improvements within federal financial management systems. The Junior Financial Analyst will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure efficient financial operations, compliance with federal regulations, and the effective execution of the agency’s strategic objectives.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in financial analysis, budget support, or related fields.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- At least 1 year of experience in project management and program analysis.
- Strong interpersonal, team-building, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to conduct independent research, structure written reports, and articulate findings clearly.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with high attention to detail.
- Interest in learning federal financial execution processes, including reimbursables and reconciliations.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust security clearance.
- Interest in federal business systems related to accounting, financial reporting, and accountability.
Responsibilities
- Support the entire federal budget process, including formulation, spend plan creation, contract closeout, and fiscal year budget execution.
- Aid in developing and delivering training materials, such as the FPS FPMD Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution reference guide.
- Consolidate and maintain historical financial and budgetary records for accuracy and accessibility.
- Provide financial and budgetary records management support, ensuring compliance with federal standards.
- Develop and document knowledge management practices, including process documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Respond to inquiries regarding obligations, providing supporting documentation and clarification.
- Generate reports on obligation timeliness, obligation versus contract closeout de-obligations, backlogs, and error rates to inform decision-making.
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to identify process improvements and optimize financial workflows.
- Participate in meetings, present findings, and facilitate discussions with representatives at various organizational levels.
