About The Role
The City of Bothell is seeking a collaborative and analytical Senior Financial Analyst to join its finance team. This pivotal role is designed for a professional who is passionate about public finance and eager to contribute to the city’s long-term fiscal health. As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will be instrumental in analyzing budgets, developing financial forecasts, and providing strategic recommendations to support city services and initiatives. Your expertise will aid in the preparation of key financial reports, including the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), and facilitate data-driven decision-making across various departments. Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a related field, with a minimum of five years of relevant experience in financial analysis, public finance, or government accounting.
- A CPA, CFA, or similar professional certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong proficiency in financial modeling, data analysis, and reporting tools such as Excel, SAP, or other financial software is essential.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills, the ability to interpret complex financial data, and experience working collaboratively across departments.
- Knowledge of governmental accounting standards, budget development processes, and regulatory compliance is highly desirable.
- A proven track record of delivering accurate, high-quality work with attention to detail and integrity is crucial for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Support financial strategy and policy development by compiling, reviewing, and analyzing City financial data and operational reports; monitor updates, evaluate information, recommend actions, and prepare forecasts and reports.
- Conduct detailed operating and capital budget analysis, including review of expenditures and revenue trends, and reconciliation of data from multiple sources.
- Assess operational changes and trends, estimate fiscal impacts, and develop supporting analysis and narrative for program plans and funding requests.
- Provide consultation to City staff on financial, budgeting, accounting, and technical matters by researching issues, identifying solutions, and offering guidance on procedures and account-related questions.
- Assist in preparing financial analyses and reports, including the CAFR, and help interpret and communicate City policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Collaborate with departments to develop and monitor budgets, ensuring alignment with city strategic priorities and financial policies.
- Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and other financial oversight activities to uphold transparency and accountability.
- Stay informed on changes in financial regulations, best practices, and emerging trends in public finance to continuously improve city financial management practices.
