Job Duties
- Serves as the primary financial analyst for multiple assigned sections within the Department of Medicine, acting as a liaison between section leadership and the department's central finance team.
- Analyzes and monitors operating budgets for assigned sections to ensure compliance throughout the fiscal year; identifies variances and requests budget revisions as needed.
- Maintains financial practices across assigned sections by monitoring expenses, revenue, and financial accounts; reviewing and approving financial transactions; performing account reconciliation, journal entries, and cost transfers; ensuring accuracy and proper documentation in accordance with BCM policy and sponsor/institutional guidelines.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and variance analyses for section chiefs, section administrators, and department leadership; prepares ad hoc and specialized financial analyses as requested.
- Aids in annual budget development, salary planning, and multi-year financial forecasting for assigned sections, in coordination with the central finance team.
- Partners with section administrators and central finance leadership to identify process improvements and standardize financial practices across sections; maintains supporting documentation and internal controls sufficient to support internal and external audits.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
- Two years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an academic medical center, medical school, hospital, or other academic/healthcare environment.
- Experience in financial analysis, budgeting, or long term planning.
- Experience with faculty practice plan or clinical revenue cycle financials.
- Experience with financial models.
- Proficiency with financial/ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
- A high degree of flexibility, the ability to work independently, and professional communication skills.
