Financial Analyst
About the role
The Financial Analyst serves as a key business partner to the Commercial and Project Delivery organizations, providing financial analysis, forecasting, pricing support, profitability analysis, and decision support for a manufacturing and distribution business. This role supports revenue growth, margin expansion, and strategic decision-making through customer profitability analysis, pricing management, sales forecasting, financial modeling, and business performance reporting.
The analyst works closely with Sales, Product Management, Operations, Supply Chain, Customer Service, and Finance leadership to identify opportunities, measure performance, and support profitable growth initiatives. While reporting directly to the Senior Finance Manager – Commercial, the position also works closely with the Finance Manager – Operations (North America) to support cross-functional financial analysis related to product costs, inventory, manufacturing and supply chain performance, and operational profitability.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a finance business partner to Sales, Customer Excellence, and Operations managers. Support sales planning, forecasting, and performance management activities.
- Analyze sales trends, volume, mix, and customer performance. Prepare monthly sales and margin reporting packages/presentations.
- Assist commercial teams in evaluating growth opportunities and strategic initiatives. Support customer quotations and commercial negotiations through financial analysis.
- Conduct ad hoc analysis related to customers, products, channels, and markets. Participate in monthly business reviews and commercial performance discussions.
- Develop financial models to support sales strategies and revenue growth opportunities.
- Analyze pricing actions, discounts, rebates, freight recovery programs, and customer incentives. Evaluate gross margin performance by customer, product, product family, business unit, and sales channel.
- Analyze the impact of raw material, labor, freight, and overhead cost changes on pricing decisions. Support price increase initiatives and pricing reviews.
- Monitor price realization and identify margin leakage opportunities. Support quotation reviews and profitability assessments for new business opportunities.
- Provide recommendations to improve profitability while maintaining market competitiveness.
- Perform customer, product, and channel profitability analysis. Identify trends affecting margins and profitability.
- Evaluate contribution margin and EBIT impact of commercial decisions. Support portfolio management initiatives through product profitability assessments.
- Analyze sales mix changes and financial impacts. Identify opportunities to improve customer and product profitability.
- Develop reporting and dashboards to enhance profitability visibility.
- Partner with the Senior Finance Manager – Operations and Plant Controller – Mexico to understand operational cost drivers impacting profitability.
- Support analyses related to manufacturing costs, product costing, inventory, freight, and distribution expenses.
- Assist in evaluating the financial impact of operational changes on customer profitability and pricing. Participate in cross-functional discussions related to sourcing, product costs, and margin improvement opportunities.
- Support inventory and working capital analysis as needed. Help reconcile commercial performance drivers with operational performance measures.
- Support annual budgeting, periodic forecasting, and long-range planning processes. Prepare revenue, gross margin, and expense forecasts.
- Develop financial models and business cases for strategic initiatives. Analyze actual performance against budget, forecast, and prior year results.
- Identify key business drivers and emerging risks. Support management reporting and executive presentations. Assist with monthly financial reviews and forecast updates.
- Develop and maintain financial reports, dashboards, and KPI scorecards. Support reporting automation and process improvements.
- Ensure data integrity within reporting and analytical tools. Utilize ERPs, consolidation, and business intelligence systems to provide actionable insights.
- Create recurring and ad hoc management reports. Analyze large data sets and summarize findings into executive-level recommendations.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency and analytical capabilities. Assist in the implementation of new financial reporting tools and processes.
- Support finance transformation and continuous improvement initiatives. Promote data-driven decision-making throughout the organization.
- Document and standardize reporting processes and analytical methodologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance and/or Accounting (strongly preferred), Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
- 2–4 years of experience in Financial Planning & Analysis, Accounting, Commercial Finance, Sales Analytics, or related fields.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, distribution, industrial, or supply chain organizations preferred.
- Experience with customer profitability and margin analysis strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices, and analysis and reporting of financial data.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Strong reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to tasks such as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Pivot Tables, use of data cubes, financial modeling, and data analysis.
- Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Halo or similar business intelligence tools.
- Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP (preferred), Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, JD Edwards, or similar.
- Strong financial modeling and forecasting capabilities. Understanding of financial statements and management reporting.
- Knowledge of manufacturing cost concepts and inventory accounting preferred.
- Spanish language skills not required, but a significant plus.
