Financial Accountant – Cash, Investments, Financial Statements

About the role

This position supports the Charlotte County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller's mission as guardians of public records and assets. Key responsibilities include fund accounting activities, such as maintaining schedules/documentation, coordinating and recording deposits, debt payments, and other financial activities. Additionally, this position involves bank reconciliations of the Board of County Commissioners, preparing and reviewing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with GASB standards.

Responsibilities

• Daily cash management including transfer of monies to and from the State Board of Administration (SBA).
• Recording of all investment transactions in the general ledger, including year-end adjustments to market values.
• Processing necessary wire transfers for investment purchases/redemptions.
• Processing all credit card transactions via downloads into the General Ledger system.
• Maintaining proper structure in financial statement preparation software (currently Caseware).
• Preparing year-end financial statements for the Clerk of Circuit Court, Supervisor of Elections, and Board of County Commissioners.
• Ensuring proper presentation of financial statements, including footnotes at every level.
• Leading financial statement presentation and ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial analysis work.
• Assisting with special projects and serving as a resource to other finance staff.
• Addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field from four-year college or university.
• Four plus years related experience and/or training.
• Experience in Cost Accounting and/or Governmental Accounting is preferred.
• Previous supervisory experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Proficiency using Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to read and properly interpret GASB statements.
