Position Summary
The Financial Accountant supports the full accounting function, from month end closes, journal entries, and preparation of financial statements to providing flexible support across accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting operations as priorities require.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for multiple entities by making accruals and other journal entries as needed.
- Correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Reconcile general ledger activity.
- Respond to financial inquiries by gathering, analyzing, summarizing, and interpreting data.
- Prepare necessary documents for annual financial audits.
- Provide financial statements and supporting documents to tax firm.
- Process monthly material transfers.
- Prepare year-end depreciation, depletion & amortization calculations.
- Serve as backup support for accounts payable, accounts receivable, or payroll functions during peak periods or staff absences.
- Support process improvement and systems initiatives across the accounting department.
- Collaborate across accounting sub-functions (AP, payroll, financial reporting, tax) to ensure continuity of operations.
- Cross-train on adjacent accounting processes to provide flexible coverage across the team.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Experience in a financial accounting/analyst role, preferably in oil and gas
- Basic knowledge of GAAP
- Deadline oriented
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work across multiple accounting functions, not solely financial reporting
- Comfortable shifting priorities and picking up new processes with minimal ramp-up
- Experience in a lean or small-team accounting environment where staff wear multiple hats
Desired Skills and Abilities
- Oil and gas experience preferred
- Experience using BOLO accounting system
- Exposure to more than one accounting/ERP system
- Process improvement or systems implementation experience
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- Three (3) or more years of financial accounting experience
