Finance Director
Essential Job Functions
The purpose of this position is to protect and serve the property and citizens of the City. This is accomplished by supervising the activities of Police personnel. Other duties may include monitoring Police reports, overseeing complaints, answering calls for service and interfacing with other City employees and citizens.
Supervises Police personnel by making command decisions, approving reports, scheduling personnel activities, evaluating tasks performed, maintaining discipline and ensuring adherence to policies and procedures and counseling or directing subordinates in the field.
Maintains positive community relations by answering citizens’ questions and complaints, providing various forms of civic service and assistance for citizens, by surveying the public to evaluate problem areas and specific needs and questioning citizens for their information regarding incidents and opinions on Police matters.
Job Requirements
- Formal Education / Knowledge - High School Diploma or G.E.D.; must have a minimum of 15 college semester credits.
- Experience - Five (5) years of police officer experience; currently hold the rank of Police Corporal with the Allen Police Department.
- Certification and Other Requirements - Valid Texas Class C Drivers License; TCLEOSE Intermediate Certificate.

- Reading: Advanced - Ability to read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents.
- Math: Intermediate - Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement.
- Writing: Intermediate - Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
- Managerial: Receives general directions. The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies.
- Supervisory / Organizational Control: Work requires functioning as a lead worker performing essentially the same work as those directed, and includes overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work.

- Health & Dental Insurance - The City of Allen offers two PPO Medical Plan options for full-time employees. Vision insurance is included through enrollment in either of these plans. Employees also have the option of participating in an indemnity Dental Plan. Coverage is also available to all full-time employees and their dependents under these plans at group rates. - Holidays - Employees receive nine paid holidays per year, including one personal day.
- Vacation - Employees with less than five years of service are eligible to earn 80 hours per year. An employee with five or more years of service is eligible to earn 120 hours per year. Employees with ten or more years of service are eligible for 160 hours per year.
- Sick Leave - Employees earn 72 hours of sick leave per year. There is no limit to the amount of sick leave hours you may accrue.
- Retirement - The City of Allen participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS): All full time employees must participate in the Texas Municipal Retirement System. TMRS is a qualified tax deferred retirement plan underSection 401 of the IRS. Seven (7%) percent of gross earnings are deducted each payroll as a pre-tax deduction and deposited into the member account. When an employee becomes vested and retires, the City of Allen provides 2-to-1 matching contributions. The City of Allen also participates in Social Security.
- Deferred Compensation - The City of Allen offers an optional deferred compensation 457 plan in which employees can contribute a portion of their salary , before taxes, to a retirement account.
- Longevity - Employees who have been with the City of Allen at least a year receive $4 per month for every month worked.
