About the role
We're building a consumer-facing content engine: short, news-pegged pieces published on a rhythm, written inside Sherman’s philosophy instead of sounding like every other market commentary. This role turns our research into something a normal person will read, on deadline, week after week.
Who you're writing for
A W-2 employee in his late forties with money to invest, who's either frozen or sitting with an advisor who does nothing for him. He's smart, not a professional, and reading on his phone. Write at his level without writing down to him.
Responsibilities
- Translate Sherman’s research into finished, publish-ready copy on schedule—daily notes (300–500 words), weekly connective pieces (700–900 words), monthly deeper dives (1,200–1,800 words), and quarterly flagships (2,000+ words).
- Craft headlines, subject lines, and peg each piece to timely news.
- Maintain one consistent voice across all four cadences.
- Work from the style guide and help refine it.
- Get copy through compliance cleanly, ideally in one round.
Requirements
- 3+ years writing professionally, with published finance or markets work (investing media, fintech, asset manager, or newsletter with a subscriber base).
- A portfolio showing you can be clear and technical at the same time.
- Fluency in markets and a track record of shipping on recurring deadlines.
- Comfortable being edited and accepting that the market call isn’t yours to make.
Nice-to-haves
- Prior work inside a compliance review process.
- Familiarity with systematic, quantitative, or trend-following strategies.
- Some SEO instinct for evergreen pieces.
Disqualifiers
- No published finance writing samples.
- Desire for editorial authority over the market view.
- Guaranteed-outcome or prediction-heavy writing style.
- No evidence of hitting recurring deadlines.
Philosophy & Constraints
- We don’t predict; we respond to what price is already doing.
- Rules over opinions—the system is the story.
- Losses are part of the design; write about them honestly.
- Patience is the product; make “stay the course” read like a deliberate decision.
What you own
- Turning research inputs into publish-ready copy.
- Headlines, subject lines, and news pegs.
- One consistent voice across all cadences.
- Style-guide adherence and refinement.
- Clean compliance clearance.
What you don’t own
- The market view or any investment recommendation.
- Design, layout, or email send mechanics.
- Paid media, distribution strategy, or channel management.
- Anything touching Sherman’s advisor-facing products.
Schedule & Workflow
Async and deadline-driven. You manage your own time and hit dates without being chased. Deadlines are hard.
How we measure success
- On-time delivery rate.
- Edit depth (how much rework a draft needs before shipping).
- Compliance rounds per piece (target: one).
- Engagement: open rate, read-through, forwards.
- Conversion contribution on gated pieces.
Guardrails
- Every piece clears compliance review before publication.
- No performance claims, no forward-looking predictions, no personalized advice.
- Disclosure language is standard and non-negotiable.
