Finance and Operations Coordinator
About the role
Heron Data is building the trust layer for American small business. Every day we read the financial documents behind roughly 25,000 businesses and help lenders underwrite more than 10% of US businesses a year, turning what used to take weeks of manual paperwork into a decision that takes minutes. We're a ~55-person Series A team across New York and London, growing fast, and we're looking for someone early in their career to help keep the whole operation running. This is the role where you learn how a company actually works. You'll sit at the center of Heron (across finance, people, and office operations) and own the systems, vendors, and day-to-day processes that enable everyone to do their best work. It's broad by design: the ideal first job if you want to build real judgment quickly and grow toward a career in finance, operations, or people.
Responsibilities
- Keep the money moving — own accounts payable and receivable, manage corporate cards and repayment plans, keep our AR tracker current, and make sure spending is coded correctly across our US and UK books.
- Onboard every new joiner — run it end to end, from accounts and equipment to background checks and a great first week.
- Run benefits and vendors — administer health, pension, and family benefits across both countries, and be the person who keeps everything accurate.
- Support immigration and compliance — help move visa processes along and keep our paperwork clean.
- Tidy and automate — keep our tools and trackers up to date, set up new customer accounts in our billing and data systems, and build the small automations that save everyone time.
Requirements
You're graduating soon or recently graduated (any major, but some finance / business acumen preferred) and want a broad, high-ownership first role. You're unusually organized and like closing loops. Nothing slips through the cracks on your watch. You're comfortable with numbers and pick up new software fast. You're proactive; you'd rather figure it out and propose a fix than wait to be told. You care about getting things right, especially where money, people, and compliance meet. You're excited to be in the office with the team in New York.
Qualifications
- You don't need finance or operations experience; bring the instincts above and the willingness to learn, and we'll teach you the rest.
- You'll work closely with our finance and operations leads, get real responsibility from week one, and see every part of how a startup gets built.
- Some of the most valuable people at any company started in exactly this seat.
Skills
- Unusually organized
- Comfortable with numbers
- Proactive problem solver
