About the role

The Business Services Directorate (BSD) at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) provides crucial financial, procurement, and sales, and project management services to PNNL, ensuring efficient, effective, and compliant business operations. BSD fosters a dynamic environment where individuals can develop their skills, take on leadership roles, and contribute to high-impact projects.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of financial and/or accounting activities, including the maintenance, control, analysis, and development of complex financial/accounting records, reports, and systems.
  • Provide or assist in business advice and services to management and staff to ensure compliance with applicable federal laws, regulations, policies, and sound business practices.
  • Adhere to and communicate business policies and procedures, including training and interpretation for the various organizations supported.
  • Work onsite a minimum of two days per week. Remote work is allowed but requires readiness to go onsite on short notice.
  • Conduct monthly reviews of overhead costs and recoveries and FTE performance; provide documentation for rate revisions and adjustments of budgets.
  • Present overall impacts and recommendation of potential options/alternatives for management approval.
  • Ensure financial transactions comply with accounting policies and practices by conducting financial reviews and approval of appropriate source documents.
  • Provide guidance/training for M&O staff on financial policies and procedures, appropriateness of costs, and proper charging guidelines; communicate changes in accounting procedures.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by Laboratory and BSD management.
  • Translate strategy into specific goals and objectives; provide solutions which are highly innovative and ingenious; identify opportunities and risks and make recommendations affecting organizational or Lab strategy.
  • Manage projects involving diverse tasks, teams, and organizations; select financial and accounting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Qualifications

  • BS/BA and 7 years of relevant experience - OR - MS/MA or higher and 5 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration and 8+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • Knowledge of PNNL financial/accounting systems and software programs
  • Knowledge of FAR, DEAR, Cost Accounting Standards and PNNL Charging Guidelines preferred
