Winter 2026 | CLT333H1S Special Topics: Scotland and the Scots in the 20th Century

About the role

This course investigates the transformation of the land and its people in the course of the 20th century. Themes include changes in industry, agriculture, and the broader economy; the efforts of successive governments to influence the trajectory and shape of the country; the overall impact of the world wars; party politics and the rise of nationalism; and the evolution of Scottish society and culture in specific and general terms.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the course based on syllabus and assignment guidelines provided by the program
  • Mark assignments and tests in a timely fashion
  • Hold one office hour per week
  • Follow College and University code of conduct and policies

Qualifications

  • Evidence of established expertise in the field of Lowland Scots Language and Literature is essential
  • University-level teaching experience in this field, with evidence of successful teaching, is preferred
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential

  • Class schedule: Wednesday 3PM – 5PM (in-person)
  • Dates of appointment: January 5, 2026 – May 10, 2026
